We started this journey almost 10 years ago when a friend showed me a picture of a Nordhavn 62. My response – that is the boat for me. What followed was a decade of exploration and investigation; research that included lots of reading and lots of travel. Over the course of that time we visited each of the 4 Nordhavn sales offices in the US, charted a 47″ Nordhavn in Seattle in the middle of the deepest cold spell the region had seen in many years, traveled to Ft. Lauderdale 3 different years to attend the big boat show and crawled in, around and over a number of boats from different builders. But we kept coming back to Nordhavn. I’ve been on Nordhavns as small as 40′ and as large as 86′; given what started this journey I’ve been on a number of the famous 62′ trawlers, including the all black Dimma that a friend of mine and I visited while it was tied up to a private dock in the Hudson River across from Manhattan. But the more time I spent on the 62′ the more I wondered about the lack of a flybridge, and finally decided that the 55 was the model for us.
Over the next months I’ll try and document our search that finally led us to N5516 and also keep you updated on our the current state of the adventure.
All Hail Absurdity.
